Residents receive their high school education through the Manos House Private Academic School. This school is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Students attend classes daily throughout the entire year. All teachers are state certified in their subject area, and class sizes are small so individualized attention can be provided to students which includes individual tutoring and remedial reading. Emphasis is placed on teaching basic skills. Another goal is to teach residents how to become good students.
By learning effective study habits, by taking responsibility for their schoolwork and by being respectful to the teacher and fellow students, residents have a greater opportunity to succeed when they return to their own school. All students can earn enough high school credits to allow them to return to their appropriate grade level when they complete treatment. Advanced students may be able to gain enough credits to earn a high school diploma through the Manos Private Academic School.
